Operating an inhouse affiliate program can be a very effective strategy, which allows you to work even more closely with affiliates and pay them more money directly. You can grow an inhouse affiliate program by recruiting affiliates from the web (by contacting websites and posting on forums) and advertising in Google, Yahoo, and MSN under “affiliate marketing” keywords, driving the traffic directly to your affiliate signup page. Once you are signing up affiliates directly you can measure the ROI they generate against what it costs to acquire the affiliate via PPC. From my experience, it does work well. You only need 1 good affiliates sometimes to pay for the entire monthly advertising.</p>

PPC is a great way to gauge the actually conversion rate of your website versus the competition. In the PPC environment, the consumer is given choice, so it’s imperative to “convert” this traffic into acquisitions. And if you can’t convert them get them to leave their contact info with you via newsletter signups and exit pops. PPC can really grow over time, and should be a constant focus of improving the depth and effectiveness of the ads and keywords you are using. Targeting landing page content to the actual search phrase is a great way to improve conversion rates. Test and retesting ads and landing pages to increase conversion rates should be a constant focus of your company. You website is NEVER done being improved. There are many different ways to drive traffic to your website, but possibly still the best and most exciting is via the organic, or natural search results. SEO or Search Engine Optimization has been around for years, and as Google, Yahoo, and MSN have evolved so has website optimization. However, good search engine strategy hasn&#8217;t really charged too much over the years. Everything relating to getting more organic traffic is pretty darn intuitive and by using certain principles relating to content production you can acheive higher rankings and more organic traffic. Of course, make sure all your meta-tags are well done and thorough on all pages of your site. Make sure &#8220;alt text&#8221; for images is present as well. When the search engines &#8220;index&#8221; your site they are reading ALL the content in the code of your page, so take advantage of that when possible. Also, linking to the main areas of your site from your homepage is a good idea. Any pages linked from your homepage will likely rank higher than the pages deeper linked in your site. So make sure you are linking to your main areas i.e. top level categories, geo-targeted pages, important sales info&#8230;from your homepage. Inbound linking is also important and having a good inbound linking strategy in place is vital. There are many responsible, natural and free ways to increase your inbound links and this should be a constant strategy on a weekly basis. Sounds like a lot to do? You could probably staff 3 full-time people to manage good, constant SEO for your site minimum! We can go into that at a latter date&#8230;anyways, here are three main principles you should adhere to in your business philosophy regarding SEO and your website: </p>
<p>- Quality of Content - Making sure your site content is written as well as it can be. This can be a relative thing, but making sure each page has well-written content is always recommended.<br />
- Frequency of Content - You should update your site with new pages of content on a daily basis. The search engines love it when you work on your site a lot, so I usually recommend adding 5-10 pages, posts or articles a day to your site. Posting multiple times a day gets the search engines, especially Google, sending their spiders back to your site to check for new content hundreds of times a day.<br />
- Length of Post/Article - I do feel that the length of your articles/posts/reviews is extremely important so you can garner more search results per page of your site. Why not capitalize on pages that rank really well by adding more content to those pages. Always make sure to keep your content well-placed on the page, as to not distract from the ultimate goal of converting that visitors into a buyer. Several Calls-to-Actions should always be present on all of your sites pages, if these pages are intended to bring in more sales or leads. Using banner and text link placements are key on these pages. I also recommend newsletter sign-up boxes on all your site&#8217;s inner pages and other functions to get people interacting with your site like forward-to-a-friend.</p>
<p>This isn&#8217;t everything you need to know regarding having a growing, productive, well-ranking SEO presence, but its a nice start. I have to come to believe that the quality of your on-site content is the single most important factor in getting your site ranked higher and more pages ranking. Also, frequency of posting new content to your site is huge to pumping out new pages of content that can bring you more search traffic. Length of post is also huge because I have sites where an obscure phrase buried on the page pulls a #1 ranking and brings in a new visitor. Whether you have a new site or an old site, you can work aggressively to improve your search rankings. There is no reason at all you shouldn&#8217;t be driving thousands of visitors to your site through organic search on a daily basis. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Operating a successful affiliate program is a long-term strategy and should have certain procedures in place to grow a large and productive affiliate program. Having the right affiliate managers in place is a must. The question is whether to use internal company staff, hire an experience affiliate manager, or use an outsourced affiliate program management company or OPM. There are various pros and cons to using any of these options. Some companies will use a combination of inhouse people and outsourced management to get the job done. But not all internal affiliate managers and OPM are created equal&#8230;and there are many factors to consider. </p>
<p>If you use an internal staff member to manage your affiliates you likely won&#8217;t get enough proactivity or coaching going on. Coaching and training is integral to working with your affiliates to get them producing well. If you just rely on your top 5% of affiliates, you will never have a large, productive base of affiliates. When you have a large productive affiliate base you will have a tremendous foundation of traffic and revenue. Affiliate activation rate is also critical to getting the most out of your affiliate program and inexperienced internal staff may not be able to deliver in this regard. Similarly, if you hire the wrong outsourced program management company, you run the risk of having only somewhat experienced and knowledgeable people managing and working with your affiliates. Make sure the OPM company you hire can answer all the hard questions and give you a feeling of confidence that they can take your affiliate program to the next level. Also look at their list of clients and see who you feel has the right mix of programs and quality companies on board as clients. The more quality merchants an OPM has the more likely they are managing 10s of thousands of great affiliates. If they can project a vision for how your program will grow and how long it will take, it will help you feel confident in their abilities.</p>
<p>Outsourcing your affiliate program can be a good idea if you use the right company. There are two activities your affiliate management should be doing at all times: working with your current affiliate base and reaching out to new affiliates to bring them onboard. If both of these tasks aren&#8217;t being done simultaneously then you are not truly capitalizing on your affiliate program. Look for a company that is going to be innovative and creative with your affiliates. Running contests and designing compelling creative is a great way to get your affiliates excited about your program. Affiliate management should be extremely proactive in nature, there is no room for slacking or coasting with managing affiliates.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Adtech New York is always a great time, with lots of cool, innovative people to meet. Networking is a skill that should get better with time, and Adtech is a great place to practice your networking skills. But is conference networking something you do entirely for selfish purposes? I don&#8217;t thing it should be. When you go to a big internet marketing convention like Adtech, you should go to have a fun and meet business connection. Some people are more serious about getting business out of it and some people are more concerned with partying it up. I think you should land somewhere in the middle. I absolutely think everyone should go and take it serious and not slack in trying to meet people and exchange business cards. However, most of the business deals get done at the hotel bars. The parties and night clubs aren&#8217;t really that great, because a lot of times you don&#8217;t know that many people that actually make it there and it gets old really quick. You can sometimes find your self in an interesting discussion or 2 so I think the evening function have some potential.</p>
<p>ADtech is primarily a search engine and performance based marketing show. There are many &#8220;SEO companies&#8221; and affiliate networks that are vying for all the potential clients in attendance. I don&#8217;t even stop at SEO company booths because I already have SEO and PPC experience and don&#8217;t need their services. Sometimes it is interesting to hear their pitches and play along for a bit. Meeting people at the show is all what you put into it.
